C3) 3/12/08: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Press Release: Botswana to donate P3 million in humanitarian relief to Zimbabwe:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation wishes to announce that in view of the humanitarian crisis facing the people of Zimbabwe, the Government of the Republic of Botswana has decided to donate an amount of P3 million (Three million Pula) towards health and food relief. The donation will be channelled through the World Health Organization (WHO), UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP).

Botswana is concerned at the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Zimbabwe. Reports of the recent cholera outbreak which has already claimed the lives of several hundred people and food shortages should trouble the conscience of humanity. We call upon the parties to the global political agreement signed on 15 September 2008 to seriously consider the interests of the people of Zimbabwe by quickly agreeing on the establishment of an all inclusive Government so that they can focus attention on the urgent needs of the people.
