BEIJING - A senior Chinese official on Thursday called for greater media exchanges between China and African countries.

Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with an African delegation formed by press officials and media heads in Beijing for a journalistic seminar.

Liu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said the measures taken under the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum helped boost cooperation, including those of the media.

Speaking on behalf of African Seminar participants, Mrs. Eva Mamie Flomo of Liberia, said each participant was greatly impressed by the development of China and the hospitality of the Chinese people. She said they hoped to have an in-depth exchange of views with their Chinese counterparts.

The seminar held by the Information Office of China's State Council for African press officials and media heads opened last week. Forty-six officials from 26 African countries are participating.
