C9) 9/3/09: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation Press Release: - Minister Skelemani to attend 8th Nordic-Africa Foreign Ministers Meeting


The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Phandu T.C. Skelemani leaves today for Copenhagen, Denmark where he will attend the 8th Nordic-Africa Foreign Ministers meeting on 11-12 March 2009. Botswana hosted the 7th Nordic-Africa Foreign Ministers meeting on the 03-04 March 2008.

The Nordic-Africa Foreign Ministers meeting is an informal forum established in 2000 and consists of Foreign Ministers of five Nordic countries, namely, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway and ten African countries – Botswana, Benin, Ghana, Lesotho, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania.

The 8th Nordic-Africa Foreign Ministers meeting is expected to discuss peace and security, including security arrangements, conflict management and regional cooperation in Africa, climate change, particularly possible responses and potential areas of cooperation between Africa and Nordic countries, as well as topical foreign policy issues such as Sudan, Somali piracy and developments in Zimbabwe. Hon. Skelemani will return to Gaborone on 13 March 2009.
