C1) 27/8/09: STATEMENT BY FORMER PRESIDENTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF BOTSWANA - SIR KETUMILE MASIRE AND MR. FESUS MOGAE, ALONG WITH DR. CHIEPE AND MR. SATAR DADA - ON CURRENT AFFAIRS IN THE BOTSWANA DEMOCRATIC PARTY

We the Former Presidents, assisted by party elders Dr. Chiepe and Mr. Satar Dada have been in discussions with His Excellency the President on one hand and Messers Kwelagobe and Motswaladi on the other.

The purpose of our interactions was to explore the possibility of lifting of Mr. Motswaledi's suspension.

His Excellency the President had expressed a willingness to lift the suspension if Mr. Motswaledi apologized. At our request, Mr. Motswaledi had written a letter to His Excellency the President which in our opinion constituted an apology, we were going to present and commend it to His Excellency the President.

Unfortunately at the start of a meeting on Thursday morning (27/08/09), at which we were going to present the letter to His Excellency and urge/request him to accept it, it was announced that Mr. Motswaledi had registered his case against His Excellency with the High Court, consequently we were unable to proceed with discussions.
